Rust on 90% coins

Anybody know an easy way to get rust off of 90% silver?

I recently bought some that was flooded while in a metal container and it's pretty funky with rusty-red accretions.

I know it's not real important but I'm weird about goo on my silver.
Would vinegar work?

I have no idea what it will do to your silver but CLR will knock the rust off.

Silver doesn't rust. It could originate from the container if it was made of iron.
and yes, vinegar (or coca cola) dissolves rust.

I don't have that but I have some Lime-Away. I'll try it on one.

I hope it's not also Silver-Away. :D

I got a nice price. I knew they were rusty when I got them. It's why the price was a bit lower.
They are fixer-uppers. :bull-buddy-icon:

Re: Rust on 90% coins

I'd first try soaking for a while and shaking the coins a warm-water & good grease-cutting liquid dish detergent solution.

If they still ahve some rust on 'em I'd then put them in white vinegar for awhile and shake them there too.

Be careful soaking them in Coke for a very long period...I remember when I was kid a couple of friends and I disolved a penny in a bottle of coke.

The penny was 95% copper....the coins are 10% copper - don't know what the effect might be on a 90% Ag coin.

vinegar, coke or any other acidic solution, superficial rust stains should come off very quickly.
